Shizuoka prefecture is most known as the home of Mount Fuji and produces most of Japan's green tea. However what most tourists may overlook is the fact that Shizuoka prefecture has more to offer than just Mount Fuji and green teas. Attractions in Shizuoka are diverse and you could find something to suit your interest be it in terms of culture, nature, history, industrial, food & beverage, and many more. We will be introducing several interesting attractions based on a 3 days 2 nights itinerary below.

Start from JR Hamamatsu Station
Hamamatsu city
One of the three largest sand dunes in Japan, the venue for the annual Hamamatsu kite-flying festival, and the place where the endangered loggerhead turtles lay their eggs every summer, and a famous filming location for movies and promotional videos.

Enjoy lunch at this restaurant which specializes in Kanto style grilled eel. Their most famous menu is the Ohitsu Unagi chazuke.

Kakegawa city
Tenhama Line is a local train line with panoramic views Japan's beautiful scenery on the Western side of Shizuoka prefecture. Hop on for a short and laid back train ride.

The Hamamatsu Festival Pavilion displays the many items used in the annual Hamamatsu Festival, the only kite-flying festival in Japan which dates back to more than 400 years.

Mori town
An ancient Shinto shrine said to be constructed in year 555. It is one of the four major Shinto Shrines in Shizuoka prefecture and is registered as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Assets.

The last shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate Lord Yoshinobu Tokugawa resided at Fugetsuro for the first twenty years of his retirement. Aside from being a historical place, Fugetsuro functions as a restaurant serving lunch/tea/dinner, and an event venue for special occasions.

A shrine with a history of over 400 years and enshrines Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is the first Toshogu Shrine in Japan, hence the similarity with the Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

Kami no Michi or God's Path is a 500m long road lined with 200 to 400 year old pine trees. It connects Miho Shrine and Miho no Matsubara.

A traditional teahouse located along the Old Tokaido Road. Established in 1596, it is the oldest company in Shizuoka prefecture. Their specialty is the tororo-jiru, a grated yam soup made from the high-quality Japanese yam grown in the area.

Nihondaira Ropeway connects Nihondaira Yume Terrace and Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. The gondola was designed after the image of a palanquin for lords and princesses. The short 5 minutes rider offers you an amazing view of Suruga Bay, Miho no Matsubara, and even Moutn Fuji on a clear day.
