Shizuoka prefecture is most known as the home of Mount Fuji and produces most of Japan's green tea. However what most tourists may overlook is the fact that Shizuoka prefecture has more to offer than just Mount Fuji and green teas. Attractions in Shizuoka are diverse and you could find something to suit your interest be it in terms of culture, nature, history, industrial, food & beverage, and many more. We will be introducing several interesting attractions based on a 3 days 2 nights itinerary below.

MODEL ITINERARY

day 1

Start from JR Hamamatsu Station

Hamamatsu city

One of the three largest sand dunes in Japan, the venue for the annual Hamamatsu kite-flying festival, and the place where the endangered loggerhead turtles lay their eggs every summer, and a famous filming location for movies and promotional videos.

Hamamatsu city

Enjoy lunch at this restaurant which specializes in Kanto style grilled eel. Their most famous menu is the Ohitsu Unagi chazuke.

Kakegawa city

Tenhama Line is a local train line with panoramic views Japan's beautiful scenery on the Western side of Shizuoka prefecture. Hop on for a short and laid back train ride.

Hamamatsu city

The Hamamatsu Festival Pavilion displays the many items used in the annual Hamamatsu Festival, the only kite-flying festival in Japan which dates back to more than 400 years.

Hamamatsu city

An interactive museum where you can learn about the history of Yamaha and its many innovative inventions comprising of musical instruments, audiovisual devices, and many more.

Kakegawa city

A kiwi farm which started with one teaspoon of kiwi seeds is now Japan's largest kiwi farm with around 1,000 kiwi trees from 80 types, and more than 50 new varieties of kiwi fruits.

Fukuroi city

Come and stay at an extraordinary modern-day Japanese castle created and developed by the Yamaha Group, located in the woodlands of Fukuroi city which was one of the venues for the Rugby World Cup 2019. Rooms are available in Japanese-style and Western-sytle.

day 2

Mori town

An ancient Shinto shrine said to be constructed in year 555. It is one of the four major Shinto Shrines in Shizuoka prefecture and is registered as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Assets.

Shizuoka city

At Japanese restaurant Kakegawa, you could enjoy a scrumptious meal of Japanese lunch set with various kinds of small dishes to taste.

Shizuoka city

The last shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate Lord Yoshinobu Tokugawa resided at Fugetsuro for the first twenty years of his retirement. Aside from being a historical place, Fugetsuro functions as a restaurant serving lunch/tea/dinner, and an event venue for special occasions.

Shizuoka city

Conveniently located just one-minute walk away from JR Shizuoka Station, you could save the hassle and time finding your way to your hotel room after a long day of travel. Each room has a big window where you could enjoy the view of Shizuoka city or Mount Fuji from certain rooms.

Kakegawa city

A historical castle designated as a National Important Cultural Asset, and was made famous as one of the filming location for the NHK period drama "Koumyougatsuji". It was the first castle restored with wood and traditional Japanese building techniques instead of steel-reinforced concrete.

Shizuoka city

Clean Tea Matsuno is a tea processing factory. You will be shown the tea processing equipments and told the company's interesting history. At the end of the guided tour, enjoy a tea tasing from the tea leaves harvested and processed from their own farm.

Shizuoka city

This night tour will bring you to three local restaurants still unknown by tourists. The first stop will be to a famous local sushi restaurant where you will be served with fresh omakase sushi. The second stop will be the famous Oden Alley where you will try the local oden and matcha-hai drink. And the last stop will be a wasabi specialized restaurant.

day 3

Shizuoka city

The 360° open-air observation deck offers a stunning panoramic view of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, Miho no Matsubara and more. It was deisgned by the renowned Kengo Kuma & Associates using timber sourced locally from Shizuoka.

Shizuoka city

A shrine with a history of over 400 years and enshrines Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is the first Toshogu Shrine in Japan, hence the similarity with the Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

Shizuoka city

Kami no Michi or God's Path is a 500m long road lined with 200 to 400 year old pine trees. It connects Miho Shrine and Miho no Matsubara.

Mori town

A traditional teahouse located along the Old Tokaido Road. Established in 1596, it is the oldest company in Shizuoka prefecture. Their specialty is the tororo-jiru, a grated yam soup made from the high-quality Japanese yam grown in the area.

Shizuoka city

Nihondaira Ropeway connects Nihondaira Yume Terrace and Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. The gondola was designed after the image of a palanquin for lords and princesses. The short 5 minutes rider offers you an amazing view of Suruga Bay, Miho no Matsubara, and even Moutn Fuji on a clear day.

Shizuoka city

Nippondaira Hotel has possibly one of the best panoramic view of Mount Fuji. Dine in at their all day dining restaurant The Terrace for a special buffet lunch where you could enjoy their international buffet line and also a selection of main course.

Shizuoka city

A very famous scenic area in Japan and also a registered constituent asset of the “Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration” UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. It is also said to be the location of the folklore of "Legend of the Feather Robe".
